What is TANKELECTRIK?
In the first edition of Tankelectrik Bram Tankink and Willem Grimminck had two goals. First to learn and feel what solar power can do for rural villages in Nepal and second to experience the nature of the Himalayas on a mountainbike. The expedition led to the inception of Off Grid Renewable Energy (ORE). The 2022 edition of Tankelectrik to inspire more impact investors to join the learning and experience with a view to scale. Impact
Off Grid Renewable Energy (ORE) is a dedicated solar & clean energy fund focused in South East Asia, first investments are made into Nepal
ORE presents an attractive and exciting early entrant opportunity for impact investors in energy access and infrastructure in South East Asian nations, starting with Nepal It is a solar energy investment fund earmarked to take climate action, improve livelihoods, support local entrepreneurial development and accelerate solar developers in Asia’s most vulnerable Himalayan nations by closing the shortfall in electricity supply gap and expanding electricity reach with decentralised solar solutions. These countries offer tremendous need and potential for solar energy Yet solar has barely made it into the energy mix despite being a cheaper, cleaner more efficient energy source The main reason for this is because it is capital intensive and hence needs upfront financial support. Together with a group of anchor investors, fund manager One To Watch initiated the fund based on more than 10 years of investment experience and two dedicated teams in Nepal and Myanmar. The ORE Fund anticipates to raise a total of EUR 50 million to be fully invested by 2026. ORE acquires equity stakes in solar developers to build and utilize solar systems for selling electricity to productive end users This way it drives access to energy, capacity and scalability to frontier and remote solar markets. Development costs are project financed by ORE based on a lease or power purchase agreements through an SPV in joint venture with the developers. Current and visible projects pipeline is estimated at EUR 15 million for the next two years. The fund aims to target the following Sustainable Development Goals: Affordable Energy; Decent Work and Economic Growth; Climate Action
